If you’re wondering why I am so excited about this particular month… it’s my birthday month!! I am so excited to share the adventures of the 21st year of my life with you. I know it has been almost forever since I last made a post, or for those who have not read any of my posts before, welcome! This is just going to be dedicated to my ever growing addiction to carbs and coffee. Which, in fact, I am consuming as I type this hehe
While being in North Carolina for college, I’ve been able to acclimate myself to the surrounding culture and how things roll down south. Although, High Point as a city.. well.. sucks. A lot. There is hardly anything to do and no downtown. The only time it is ever alive is when furniture market rolls into town for about a week or so every October and April.
However, there has been a saving grace in terms of places to visit and hang out!! Yay! I only truly discovered it this past year (my third year of being here, ugh) which I thought was crazy since I usually like to explore more of my surroundings rather than my fellow classmates at HPU who never seem to leave the bubble that is campus. Winston-Salem is the neighboring city to High Point and has tons to offer. Not only is there a really cool Art District, but the downtown is peppered with come cute cafès, bars, and restaurants… One of the most important places though, is Mellow Mushroom. And for those of you who have never heard of it, they serve amazing pizza of all sorts. Not the typical New York pizza that we all know and love, but it is still pretty noteworthy for being a chain.
When out to lunch with my good friend Mara, I don’t think I’ve ever eaten as much carbs as I did that day. I had two good sized soft pretzels for an appetizer and we split a 14″ pizza between the two of us. But, it was so good I couldn’t resist. *insert the shrugging girl emoji*
After completely falling into a carb coma, we headed to my favorite cafè to stop into whenever I’m here. Camino Bakery (which logo is that really cool looking shell thingy) is one of my favorite coffee spots and is always busy, which speaks to it’s popularity. If you’re able to find a seat when you walk in, consider yourself very lucky. What I love about them is that they make their own flavored syrups (none of that yucky starbucks crap) and they change up their menu for the changing seasons. Also, they’re a bakery too, as in the name of the joint, and make delicious pastries and baked goods. (I’m munching on the banana bread and I recommend it highly).
I’m the type of person that once I find something I like, I will order that every single time and sometimes forget to try new things. I always tell myself ‘oh I’ll have to try that next time’… but the case is usually just the same ol’ vanilla cappuccino. I swear my body is 50% espresso and frothed milk. They have a beautiful sounding spring menu right now that I am sure has so many wonderful tasting drinks but I just stick with what I know. I really do have to branch out more.
I’m sure if you follow me on Instagram (maureencoleman2) you can gather that I live off of cappuccinos. I’m not sure what it is, but I like to think its my signature drink.
If you ever find yourself in Winston-Salem, North Carolina I strongly advise you stop in and treat yourself. They even serve beer and wine! Extra bonus there to all my alcohol loving friends.
Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy reading about my love of carbs and cappuccinos as much as I enjoyed typing it all out. You’re the best.
