Yay! It is finally October!
Although it’s still nice and warm down here in North Carolina, I still break out my favorite flannels. It’s that time of year down here in the south where the temperature drops into the 50s during the morning hours and then shoots all the way up to high 70s by 2 o’clock. In other words, freezing while going to my morning classes, sweating while going home… so you might say I cannot wait for the weather to make up its damn mind!
But anyhoo, I’m getting myself into the festive spirit of fall and have already started adding bits to my room that reflect the coziness Autumn brings. My mood has already been improving, fall is my favorite season, after all. I have gathered up some of my favorite things for the Autumnal season to share with you all so I’ll stop rambling and get to it!
First off, you can probably guess, I have been absolutely loving my fall scented candles. I burn them
occasionally almost any chance I get (don’t tell my RA), especially at night to make my room even more cozy. Who doesn’t love spiced scents with ambient lighting while wrapped in a cozy blanket? Exactly, no one! My go-to place for seasonal candles is TJ Maxx. They definitely have tons to choose from and they are usually decently priced. So go spice up your space! You’ll thank me for it! **Warning, the never-ending yummy smells make you want to constantly bake! Make sure your stocked up on some baking essentials hehe
You might laugh at this one, but give it a chance!
So, this particular staple in my fridge has been a favorite of mine for a while now but I figured it fits well with the Autumn aesthetic. Maple syrup. I know what you’re thinking… why in the hell would maple syrup be one of your favorite things? Well.. first of all, I’m not talking Mrs. Butterworth’s fructose corn syrup. I’m talking PURE maple syrup. REAL maple syrup. Second of all, I feel like it is super underrated. This form of sweetener isn’t just for pancakes and waffles, I use it to sweeten my coffee and drizzle it on top of my tart greek yogurt. Trust me, if you get the real stuff, the maple taste is least bit overbearing and barely noticeable. My whole point I’m trying to make here is that maple syrup is the type of sweetener that does not raise the glucose levels in your body like sugar and honey do. So, in simple terms, it’s healthier for you than other sweetening agents. *heavy sigh* Sorry, that was a bit preachy but I love it so you deserve to know how awesome it is!
Moving into skincare/beauty, I’ve been trying to strip it back and go with a much more minimalistic approach to my face. I’ve nixed my foundations and have just been wearing a BB cream as my base. It is so much lighter and beneficial for my skin than slopping on foundation and concealer everyday! With the silly cold to hot weather in one day, I like the fact that I know I won’t sweat off my foundation by the afternoon. Lastly, my frugal self is perfectly content with a drugstore or more affordable brand of BB cream. There’s no need to spend an arm and a leg when this 7 dollar tube works just fine for now!
I just grab mine from Target! – Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
I snuck my gold Fossil watch in my favorites too just because I love the warmth that gold accessories bring to my outfits in the fall season. It adds just that little touch of something and it especially works for me because 1. its functional and 2. I hardly wear any jewelry at all so this is about as fancy as I get haha
Lastly, there’s nothing better to get you into a certain mood than music. Well that’s how it is for me anyway! I would love to share with you my favorite Spotify playlist at the moment! It’s usually my top choice on my drive to class in the mornings as it sets the tone for the rest of the day. I also love to play it if I want to feel that extra bit cozy or autumnal.
Autumn Acoustic — If you’re a music lover like me, you’ll appreciate the cozy mood this puts you in
Even though I’ve had vinyl records for years now, I haven’t been able to play them since my old player sadly went kaput a while back. I tucked them away in my closet at home and ultimately just forgot about them (I know, shame on me). Anyway, I just hadn’t gotten around to buying a new player until now and I am so happy with my purchase. I decided to roll with the ‘new’ trend and buy some recent music too since all my records at home are quite old. My top favorite ‘new music’ record I found was Alabama Shakes, Sound & Color. Let me tell you it is possibly one of my favorite albums of all time. You need to listen to it. I quite literally jumped for joy when I saw this for sale in the shop. It may not be something you’d usually listen to but trust me. One of my good friends showed the group to me and I couldn’t be more grateful to him for it.
So, friends, that wraps up my autumn favorites and I hope I could add a little coziness to your day! Keep pluggin’ along this fall and take a little extra time in your day to reflect on what you’re thankful & grateful for!
